 | In 2000 there were 18 cardiothoracic surgeons active in New
Zealand, representing 4% of surgical specialists. In 2001 there
were four advanced trainees in cardiothoracic surgery.

cardiothoracic surgery is 1:250,000. The actual ratio in New
Zealand in 2000 was 1:212,833, so there is no shortfall in this
