ABOUT GERIATRIC MEDICINE
Geriatric medicine is concerned with the clinical, social,
preventative, remedial and rehabilitative aspects of health and
illness in older people. The specialty is broad-based and places
particular emphasis on the provision of community-based care and
services, and on the treatment of frail elderly people with multiple
problems. Geriatricians assess disabilities in older people and
devise appropriate case management plans. The specialty typically
adopts a multidisciplinary approach and offers considerable scope
