What are the financial rewards?

Consultant, public sector — as of 29/06/2009 the salary range is approximately $128,500 to $195,500 depending on years of service.  See the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists Collective Agreement

Although there is very little private ICU work available in New Zealand yet, Australia does offer a significant amount. Locum work is available in public ICUs.
