Neurology encompasses the science, investigation and treatment of
all inherited and acquired diseases affecting the nervous and
neuromuscular systems. 1
This means that there is tremendous variety in the work of a
general neurologist. Common conditions treated include
headache, epilepsy and stroke but there are an enormous number of
rare diseases that make neurology a challenging but fascinating
specialty.
More recently,
developments in neuroscience have led to an increasing ability to
treat and manage these conditions.
