specialists in New Zealand in 2000, reflecting a growth of 25%
from 1994.

 | The recommended specialist to population ratio is 1:25,000.
The current New Zealand ratio is about 1:26,000.

 | There is serious undersupply of paediatric and child health
specialists in some areas, in particular Northland,
