INCOME
What are the financial rewards?
The income is relatively good, especially in private practice. Most
anaesthetists combine public work with some proportion of private
work.
Annual incomes:
 | Consultant, public sector: $120,000–180,000 for a 40 hour
week (more for a senior consultant who works overtime) plus
reasonable leave and $7000 CME expenses.
|
 | Consultant, private sector: about $500,000 if moderately
busy. While you may not receive assistance with costs of CME,
there is considerable scope to write off expenses.
|
 | Registrar: $50,000–120,000 depending on seniority and roster
workload. |
Due to individual contracts DHBs apply conditions and pay may
vary.
